New Year's Eve!

I'm back in the routine of walking on a daily basis. For one of my new years resolutions, I'd like to tone up in some areas where I've lost inches. I have some parts that I am far from happy with.

Happy New Year and the best to you and yours!

Introducing "Santa" level!

It's a bit dated but Santa is the next level for me to achieve on this Florida trek. Over the Christmas holiday, I was 'introduced' to more of Mom's artwork and I am not just going to feature four of her pieces but rather six or maybe seven.

Due to the holiday season, I thought it's best to have a Santa level now instead of 25 or so miles later. I will unveil the next achievement levels on my "Current level" spreadsheet soon.

Saturday, December 24, 2005

Merry Christmas (or "happy holidays")

To all my faithful readership, though it may ever be so small!

Thursday, December 22, 2005

Introducing "Charlie Hustle"!

No, it's not Pete Rose of baseball fame. It's a painted gourd, in shape of a pumpkin, completed by my mom. Though she says she's not a talented artist, I beg to differ. "Charlie Hustle" and three other of her artwork will be my motivational levels until I achieve the 600 mile marker.

Unexpected rain event..

Caused me to miss my Saturday walk. I am beside myself. It had been quite some time when I hadn't walked at least 7 straight days. The weather on Saturday was miserable. Now I need to make it up.

But the Zen Micro is a back and in business. Only 2 miles until Flamingo point!

Thursday, December 15, 2005

Only..

9 more miles until the official "second" level, Flamingo point! Hopefully this will be achieved this weekend!

Monday, December 12, 2005

Onto Flaming point!

I've reached the white heron level but haven't uploaded a photo for a flamingo, but I do have one! The Zen Micro arrived over the weekend but it isn't back in business yet.

After reaching the Flamingo point, I plan on taking a break from the animal based motivation levels and am planning to do four (between 525-600) artistic ones. I have to check with the artist first.

Sneaking in a level..

I sort of ran out 'levels', but found one and started on it without placing a photo up. It's the White Heron. Onto 450!

Tough with these holidays. Don't know if I'd put on a couple of pounds as I don't have scale...yet. My current reasoning is I choose not to be a slave to it. My clothes are the telltale sign. I put something on that was way too tight before and now it fits. That in itself is awesome!

The Saga of Zen Micro

I had an incident Monday with my beloved Zen Micro. I won't go into details but it is no longer functioning. That pains me to no end, however I have picked up a backup Siren 512MB player. Price was right. Works fine but still not the same as the Zen Micro.

Ten business days is a long time to wait for turnaround.

Cracked 400 miles - Flamingo within reach

I've gone past 400 miles and slowly working towards the Flamingo point. Three undetermined intermediate levels until them. Can I stand on one foot like a Flamingo? Perhaps.

Friday, November 18, 2005

Up to Eagle

I've been bad I know, but I am making awesome progress on the FL trek! I've gone past Peanut and am now on the Bald Eagle hunt!

400 miles and counting upwards!

Thursday, November 10, 2005

Introducing...

Peanut! Though I have only one mile to reach the Tortie level (probably will achieve this tonight), I thought it best to introduce Peanut. Peanut's furr Mom works with me in our IS department. Here's Peanut!

Monday, November 07, 2005

Boring posts.

Don't know why these are so boring. I need to make them *exciting*. What can I say cholesterol level down about 50 points and I've dropped close to 25 pounds since starting this trek. I guess that IS exciting!

Friday, November 04, 2005

Asia done...

Now onto Tortie! That was so quick. Now, I'm onto a 'slowcoach' level, the Tortie level. Tortie is a UK based tortoise, sort of a sister to Zoey. I'm at 351 miles, after today's walk. Here she is:

Wednesday, November 02, 2005

Starting tonight..

and for the next 6 Wednesdays, I'm taking a Rock climbing class at Gainesville Rock Gym. Should be a hoot and some nice 'mileage' to my total! I'm taking it with Asia and Maxie's 'human' mom.

Sunday, October 30, 2005

Welcome to the Asia level!

Here's Asia! Bogie level was reached over the weekend. I'm starting to run out of ideas for my motivation. After Asia, I've decided to slow it down a little. You'll have to see what I mean in a few weeks!

Tuesday, October 25, 2005

A little slow...

But making progress. Nothing overly exciting going on though slowly reading the Bogie level.

Thursday, October 20, 2005

Maxie level reached! Now introducing....

Bogie! Here he is:

He's about 4 months old and has his own blog too, though his Mom needs to update it.

Be sure to check it out! Now onto 325 miles!

Wednesday, October 19, 2005

Only two until 300!

What a trek this has been. Tomorrow the Maxie level will be reached. Then onward until 325. I think I'm moving a little slowly on this journey but I know I am really starting to see results. I do hope these will be permanent in nature.

Sunday, October 16, 2005

Creeping up to 300 miles!

Wow, can't believe it. Only 8 miles to reach Maxie level. Though the next "key" level is at 500 miles. But the new mystery new level for 325 will be revealed this week. Stay tuned!

Wednesday, October 12, 2005

It's Hammer time - oh man.

No, not the song. There's construction going on at my work location. We're doing remodeling and my coworker and I have dealt with some massive hammer time. It's so annoying that I've a headache. Hope the day gets over soon!

But still progressing on my walk, inching ever so close to the Maxie level!

Monday, October 10, 2005

Introducing..... Maxie!

I just completed the Zoey level and next "mileage" will go toward the Maxie level. He's a great little dog and is also known as the 'treat treat dog'. Maxie lives with Golden Retriever Asia in Northwest Gainesville. Their mom is a great friend and real estate broker. Here's Maxie!

Sunday, October 09, 2005

Nearly done with Zoey!

I was closer than expected on the Zoey level. Only two more "miles" to go to begin the new milestone at 275 miles. The secret will be revealed tomorrow!

Zoey's been a wonderful level but very brief. She may appear again in the future.

Friday, October 07, 2005

Zoey photos.

Here's some photos of the beautiful Zoey.

Thursday, October 06, 2005

Zoey level progress!

I'm still making progress and did another 45 minute walk last night. Instead of driving to grocery store, I'm using feet power to walk there instead.

I still have Zoey photos and they'll be posted soon.

Tuesday, October 04, 2005

On the Zoey trail!

My UK based friend has sent me photos of the new level namesake, Zoey. I will introduce them soon. Hopefully I don't reach her milestone until I can post them.

Saturday, October 01, 2005

Gator Point reached - I want my Trek t-shirt!

FINALLY! It only took me four months to reach it. I made the Gator Point! Now, I want the t-shirt - has been well earned.

Introducing the new level. It's Zoey! Doesn't she look like a baby seal? Mind you, this is her puppy picture and now is the rip old age of 10. More photos later.

Friday, September 30, 2005

New level soon to be introduced!

As I'm only 3 miles away from the infamous Gator Point, I will be introducing the next milestone for 275. I thought it was best to stick with the intermediate "goals", to make the achievements less daunting.

Thus upon reaching Gator, the next level is Zoey. She's a 10 year old Golden Retriever and she lives with her owners at Ashgrove Farm, in Huddersfield, England. Zoey lost her mum, Tara a few months ago. Zoey, not known to bark as Tara was the family "barking spokesperson", is a very happy dog. Her puppy picture will grace the "Current Mileage" level, but I will introduce her via photos, as I reach her level.

Wednesday, September 28, 2005

Need new motivation levels.

Almost near the infamous Gator Point. I am starting to get desperate for new "movitational" levels. I'm planning to create them from mileage marker 275 through 475, as the 500 level is Flamingo Point. Any ideas?

I picked up the two CDs mentioned in yesterday's entry. They are both good and recommended!

Tuesday, September 27, 2005

New tunes a coming!

Two new CDs are being released today that I plan to pick up at the Best Buy tonight. The first is Toni Braxton's Libra. The second is Sheryl Crow's Wildflower.

I have previewed both already. Toni was on NPR, while I heard Sheryl's on World Cafe, via NPR. Really great stuff and I recommend listening to them!

Monday, September 26, 2005

More progress....

Slowly working my way to that coveted Gator point. The UF Gators easily made it past the Kentucky Wildcats, but the second half.. That left something to be desired.

My Redskins had a bye week and face the Seattle Seahawks on Sunday. That's it for now!

Thursday, September 22, 2005

Onto the Gator dude

Probably what will be the toughest level to achieve, I'm embarking on the last 25 miles to reach Gator Point.

And then that t-shirt is MINE! :)

Wednesday, September 21, 2005

Only 2 miles to go and FL trek newsletter

Until the baby manatee level (or 225) miles are reached. And at that point, I've only 25 miles until I can claim that coveted Florida Trek t-shirt.

Since 500 miles is the next big level, I'm deciding to create 25 mile increment milestones once again. Feel free to comment an idea or two I can use.

I've contributed to the FL Trek Ramble, September edition and my wonderful blog is mentioned. It can be found here, and select September 2005. My article is on page 4. Enjoy!

Sunday, September 18, 2005

Ah, the pain!

Went for a bike ride (to the Harn Museum) and then for a walk. Oh the pain in the legs. But I did add five miles to my FL trek mile collection. Single digits to the baby manatee goal!

Saturday, September 17, 2005

Go Gators! Beat the Vols!

UF Gators football team has their first test tonight against the Tennessee Volunteers. We'll see how they fare. Kick off is 8PM.

Only 13 "miles" to go to reach the final interim before the true Gator point. Go me! Be sure to check out Bogie's blog. He's a cute pup that needed his own space, as it's all about him. Hopefully his mom will update on a regular basis. I'll have to show her some tips.

Tuesday, September 13, 2005

Panther Cub reached!

Another milestone reached! Panther cub level at 200 "miles". Way cool! Only 50 more to get the coveted Florida Trek t-shirt.

Wednesday, September 07, 2005

Wild weekend, but now Wednesday

Can't believe it's Wednesday! I was "good" walking all for except Monday. As it was a holiday in the US, I took one from walking too. Amazing only 15 miles until Panther cub level is reached. Sometime this week, if not, this weekend for sure.

Sunday, September 04, 2005

Baby panda level - Reached Friday!

I reached the baby panda level on Friday. I took off from work to have a nice long weekend. Now onto the Florida panther cub level. Only 21 miles to reach 200!

Thursday, September 01, 2005

Hurricane Katrina - how I'm helping

Due to Hurricane Katrina, I thought I'd share the three organizations I've donated in order to help the folks impacted by the hurricane. They are Habitat for Humanity, Mercy Corps, and ASPCA. These are the ones I chose however there's lots of great organizations who are going to lend support to the folks. I hope I can do more to help, but this is a start.

If you can, please give what you can. Keep these people in your prayers as their situation isn't going to be resolved over night.

Tuesday, August 30, 2005

Little panda dude!

That's the best I can come up with. You'll have to agree with me that he's precious. I'm referring the panda at the National Zoo. Check him out here. As of today, he's 6.2 pounds. Notice his little paws!

And also America's Grand Slam, the toughest tournament in tennis started its second day. Be sure to see the US Open's site.

Monday, August 29, 2005

To be thankful for..

I am so very glad that New Orleans didn't get the direct hit from Hurricane Katrina. It was very upsetting to hear last night what could have been. Utter and sheer devastation. From Phantom of the Opera states it perfectly "a disaster beyond your wildest imagination."

And, my beloved Washington Redskinsdefeated the Pittsburgh Steelers 17-10 Friday night. I was shocked and thrilled!

Please pray for the folks who have been affected by Hurricane Katrina.

Friday, August 26, 2005

"Singin' in the rain?" or so it seemed!

Don't know if we're getting the some of what Hurricane Katrina is dishing out, but I did get soaked on my walk! I try and make the best of it as wet will dry, eventually.

I'm a big Washington Redskins fan and they're playing tonight against the Pittsburgh Steelers. I don't like their chances as the Steelers are 2-0 in preseason while the 'Skins are 0-2. I hope they prove me wrong though I doubt it.

The US Openstarts Monday, thought qualifying began this past Tuesday. A fortnight of fun! Our on-line tennis site, On The Line is having a Grand Slam contest. Keep tabs on how the contestants do!

Tuesday, August 23, 2005

On the right track.. or would that be "trek"?

I guess I would have to say I am on the right "track". I've achieved 6 of my self-imposed 9 levels. Slow and steady is going well. Sticking to it is my key. Wished I could motivate myself even more. However, the only one that can do that is me.

Monday, August 22, 2005

Lu level - Reached!!!

Between yesterday and today, gave me enough miles to reach Lucifer the Hippo level! I had to escape the "sauna" of my apartment's airconditioning. The poor unit was working over time to no avail. Something had to be up with either the freon or filter (or perhaps another issue). I hope it's cleared up today.

Now onto the next level Baby Panda!

Friday, August 19, 2005

Happy 2nd Birthday, Mei Sheng!

Any one who knows me well is aware, along with the manatee, I have a soft spot for pandas. They are just fabulous creatures. Mei Sheng, a panda at theSan Diego Zoo turned two today! His older sister, who's now back in China, Hua Mei had twins earlier this year. Here's a slide show of his birthday.

Mei Sheng has a baby brother and also at the National Zooin Washington DC, they've also had a panda birth and he's 6 weeks old!

About me, I'm still plugging away at the walking. Five more miles to crack the 150 mileage mark and then 105 to reach the Gator point. Don't know if others can see my progress, but it's very obvious to me. Realistically, that's all that matters. I'm keeping me motivated, not anyone else. Keep checking back!

Monday, August 15, 2005

Biking and today!

No, I haven't biked yet. Finished the book Lance Armstrong's War. Very good biography and well written. I have now started Lance's mom, Linda Armstrong's book No Mountain High Enough. It's a bit shorter than the first book and is an autobiography.

I biked to the Harn Museum to hear a curator talk about the new Toulouse-Lautrec: Artist of Montmartre exhibit. Awesome stuff and I know I'll spend some more time and detail here. After the talk, it started to rain! Had to wait it out before the ride home. I did get a bit wet.

Today, was the normal walk. I have been listening to Rick Steve's travel shows on my Zen Micro. It's one of the best investments I've purchased in a long time.

Saturday, August 13, 2005

Saturday - on the trek!

Made some slow but good progress towards the Lu level! I'm doing some simple things which are adding to the mileage. Routine stuff, like walking to the trash compactor instead of driving, walk to the store and the like.

I made a huge dent in the book I'm currently Lance Armstrong's War.It's a biography but I'm getting a bias thrown at me as I read it. I know bits and pieces of Lance but this book may not be viewing him in a 'true' light. It's very good though.

More on: "For Commissioner Donovan, lunch was a blast"

More on the lunch 'bombing'
saga
. Not a good perception and this is front page news!

Thursday, August 11, 2005

Ripkin (aka "Fat Girl") level reached!

Though it was only one mile to reach Ripkin level, I came back early from a workshop this morning and had about 45 minutes available for walking today. Thus I took advantage of this extra time. Ripkin has been reached and now is the Lucifer the Hippo. Lu is at the Homosassa Springs Wildlife Park.

He's getting up in age but a really cool fella. Not sure why I picked some rather large animals (as I'm hoping to slowly shed pounds), but many are a mix of animals I like. Then again the top level of the Florida Trek (2000 miles)is the lovely veggie-eating manatee.

Manatees are fabulous creatures. I'm a member of Save the Manatee Club and have been since 1993 (I think?). They are not the most beautiful animals, but are slow moving, precious, and lovable animals. Enjoy!

"Bombing" Bologna sandwiches (or was it PB&J?)

Yesterday morning we had received word not to head to two particular buildings in a downtown location, as one of the main streets were barracaded. One of the two buildings also had been emptied. I had found out later there was a 'suspicious' package found. The said item had been located in a commission meeting and the commission chambers were evacuated. However, departments on the 3rd floor of the same building hadn't been told to leave, though some peered outside and decided to get out themselves. Some were too busy and worked through the whole ordeal. Some of the groups on the 3rd floor include Personnel and Purchasing, among others.

The "suspicious" package was someone's lunch in a bag. I had initially heard it was a bologna sandwich however, other reports claim a PB&J (peanut butter and jelly) and an apple. The package was detonated and someone was unable to enjoy their healthy food.

End of an era - Jennings tribute

By now you'll have heard that long time ABC News anchorman, Peter Jennings has died of lung cancer at age 67. Growing up, along with Dan Rather and Ted Koppel, Peter Jennings completed the trifecta of major network's news anchors. I don't believe we'll see the likes of Peter Jennings again. May he rest in peace.

Still slow and steady towards the next level! Six miles to go.

A pint of Gainesville's finest!

No, it's not what you think it is. After a 21-year lapse and due to words that poked and prodded, I allowed a pint of my finest A positive stuff to be taken. Seems like of late I'm a sucker for good causes, so I donated blood to LifeSouth. Well, it was for Alachua County employees so I thought it was in my best interest to give. And it has been 21 years as well.

I did the walk prior to the donation and I'm doing okay.

Tuesday, August 02, 2005

Let the good times roll!

Don't know why I'm entitling this blog as such. Hot and sticky today in Gainesville. The daily walk on lunch. One good thing I like about doing this on lunch is "walking" to do errands. Today it was dropping off the GRU electric bill. Silly me went the wrong way but did eventually find.

Slow and steady!

Monday, August 01, 2005

Beginning month #2!

I can't believe it's two months since the FL trek began. As of today, I'm sitting at 104 miles. I think the intermediate levels I've created have helped, as shooting for a 250 mile goal (Gator point) first would have been a bit overwhelming.

The progression is slow but who knows where I might be able to end up. The top level is the Manatee and this is after 2000 miles. We'll see...

Saturday, July 30, 2005

The power of "Zen"

One of my most recent aquisitions which has helped me so far on my 'treks'. I picked up the Creative Zen Micro (in white) recently from B&H Photo, based out of New York City. I've ordered from them many times before. I was glad to find the Zen Micro at a reasonable price. I was able so save some monies on the shipping, as I am a member of NAPP aka National Association of Photoshop Professionals.

Wow, riddled with URLs! Well, today's walk I picked up two new CDs from the Best Buy. Both have been burned to MP3 and copied to the Zen Micro. They are Carly Simon's "Moonlight Serenade" and Carole King's "From the Living Room". I had heard both on NPR. NPR is just great. They've caused 4 CD purchases I have done because of music I've heard there.

Sorry for the long-windedness, but no one is reading this anyway so I can rant!

Friday, July 29, 2005

Murray level reached!

As of yesterday. One "mile" was needed. Today begins the Ripkin aka "Fat Girl" level. Murray and Ripkin are my sister's two cats. Ripkin is the alpha cat but amazingly both are sisters. The really can't stand each other and generally hiss when they see the other. They were adopted from "Kitty City" and their previous owners named them after two former Baltimore Orioles players, Cal Ripkin and Eddie Murray.

Ripkin likes to sit on tissue paper, in boxes, on folded clothes or whatever else may be lying around. She's sitting in a shoe box in her photo but is spilling over the size. She needs extra large kitty shoe boxes to fit her fat stuff!

Wednesday, July 27, 2005

The Hot One Hundred!

Will be reached tomorrow. Did more BootCamp Cardio this evening for nearly one hour, this in addition to the lunch walk. It will be a changing of the "cats" so to speak.

Hang in until then!

Tuesday, July 26, 2005

Half of "normal" mileage reached.

I did exercise (Boot Camp) last night for an hour, this was in addition to my normal half hour walk on lunch. Hard to believe that I've reached the half way point (6 miles) on Monday. My average has been about 12 'miles' in a week.

Only 9 miles to achieve the "Murray" level!

Friday, July 22, 2005

Motivation needed..

Still making the tortiose progress (slow and steady) towards the Murray goal. I need to stop dwelling how I am doing in comparsion to other folk. I guess I need to believe the only one that matters in this game is me and I can motivate myself.

Keep at it B!

Thursday, July 21, 2005

Like a tortoise..Slow and steady. Perhaps too slow?

Though I'm making progress, beit ever so slowly I feel I am still behind the eight-ball. I don't think I am currently where I should be at, mileage-wise if you see what I've done compared to others.

I can see the only upside to what I've achieved thus far is I am not at 0 miles! Something tells me, in addition to my mini-levels, that form can be another kick in the pants to stay motivated.

Wednesday, July 20, 2005

Murray level under way.

I started the Murray level yesterday. I've updated the trek to go spreadsheet to included the levels beyond the 250 mile Gator point. You'll see I am a long way off to reach the top level.

Enjoy!

Monday, July 18, 2005

Ducks level reached!

Another milestone reached today! I guess a strange fickle of fate worked in my favor over the weekend. Was supposed to work Saturday but a file copy had failed. I did my first biking venture. It was only an hour but it was a bit painful on the backside.

I can say it was fun however. Today begins the Murray level. She is one of my "furry" nieces and is quite soft and cuddly. Most recently she scared one my sister's recent visitors.

Tuesday, July 12, 2005

Ten miles to go!

Until the baby ducks level is reached. Slowly making it to the Gator level, only 187 more miles to go!

Monday, July 11, 2005

Slow and steady.. like a tortiose

Can't believe it's only 12 miles to until the Baby duck level is achieved. I don't understand why I'm unable to get "motivated" to trek on the weekends. One cannot blame the recent menance, Hurricane Dennis. Though there was rain, I could have completed some indoor exercise.

Hmm.

Thursday, July 07, 2005

Sweatin' bullets!

Been hot these past few days in Gainesville. However, I'm still walking tall! My last bike repair class was last night. Now I feel a bit better about some of the inner workings of a bike.

Wednesday, July 06, 2005

Slowly quacking along

I'm slowly quacking my way in the baby ducks level. It's hotter than the dickens in Gainesville, with the relative humidity close to 105 degrees.

Now if we can divert TS Dennis (the Menace) away from FL that would be grand!

Monday, July 04, 2005

Happy 4th!

Been a few days and just back from a walk. Tis quite hot out in Gainesville, but I got my "mileage" in today. Slowly working on the Baby Ducks level.

Hope all have a happy and joyous 4th!

Friday, July 01, 2005

Peeps level reached today!

It was only two miles and my half hour walk today helped me reach another goal. Two levels down and quite a few more to go!

The next level I am beginning is (aka Ducks level). Now it's just 200 miles to reach the first "official" level with the Florida trek, the gator point. Seems like a long way off but it is within reach!

Tuesday, June 28, 2005

Almost to second level!

Those 14 "miles" to go has turned into 6. Once I hit that 50 mile marker, only 200 more miles to reach the 'Gator point. It's a long way off. Slow and steady is how I'll make it.

Thursday, June 23, 2005

Making progress!

I'm making slow and steady progres (like a turtle) towards the Peeps level. As of today, 14 more miles to reach it. A bike helmet arrived yesterday and I feel a bit more comfortable having one. Now I can mix it up a bit with biking!

Tuesday, June 21, 2005

Slow but steady

I know it's been a few days, however, I am slowly making progress on the "peeps" level. I haven't a clue to why I haven't been motivated on the weekend. Perhaps it has been too hot. The two wheels are coming along. I have a couple of bike helmets on order and have a little fear riding out in some of the Gainesville traffic.

I'm expecting a package tonight for my trifecta of exercise possiblities on the Florida trek!

Thursday, June 16, 2005

Mouse mouse level - Reached today!

I missed yesterday's update...However, I have reached the today! I only needed one mile today to reach the goal. Now I embark on the (aka Peeps) level.

I should have gained mileage last night while starting a Bike Repair class. The place isn't air conditioned, so it was just fans and I sweated bullets. However the best thing is I learned how to change a flat tire. Just too cool!

Tuesday, June 14, 2005

Set of wheels tune up

Well, I picked up my shiny set of red wheels (two not four) from the bike shop today. In the very near future, I hope to incorporate it as part of my Florida trek. I'm down to 3 miles for the first level goal! Can't wait!

Monday, June 13, 2005

Second week!

Yes, I admit it, I was a wimp this weekend. No new mileage until today. I should crack the final 5 miles to the first goal this week. However, I did pick up the new set of wheels (two not four) on Saturday. In a break between rainstorms, I took the new bike for a tune up at Gator Cycle which is on 34th Street and Archer Road (not that far from where I live).

The bike should be ready Tuesday and starting Wednesday I will be taking a bike repair class for the next four weeks. So my plans are to mix up some bike riding to add to my FL Trek "mileage".

Friday, June 10, 2005

Friday update

Two more "miles" towards Mouse mouse level. I'm in single digits and should achieve it early next week. Tomorrow (Saturday), I am heading to pick up a set of wheels! Not a car but rather a bike. Once I get it in rideable shape, I will have another activity in addition to my walking. I have another item in the works, but it hasn't arrived yet.

Thursday, June 09, 2005

On My Way...

I'm now down to single digits to reach the first self-imposed "goal". Under the Links section, I've now added the Current level and also the To Go spreadsheet, so you can follow my progress.

I think I'm having a conversation with myself, but perhaps someone is reading this blog.

Wednesday, June 08, 2005

One whole week!

Can't believe it has been one week since the Trek started. The weather forecast predicted a 90% change of rain here. Luckily, I was able to get the daily half hour in. Only 11 more miles to the first goal.

I hope to add other forms of exercise to the walking, in the near future.

Tuesday, June 07, 2005

6/7 Update

More mileage towards the Mouse Mouse level. So you can track my progress, be sure to see this quick and dirty spreadsheet (as of today).

Only 13 more miles to reach level.

Monday, June 06, 2005

First "full" week

I took a day off yesterday. Way too hot down for much activity. However, I did pick up a new Yakima bike rack from a cycle shop right down the road. All I need is the bike. I'm working on that.

Did the obligatory 30 minute walk to add two miles to the grand total. Only 15 more until reaching mouse mouse level. This is the first "full" week, as 6/1 started on a Wednesday.

Driven by Technology!

I did the unthinkable since I've moved to Gainesville, went for a walk on a Saturday! I thought it would be a good 15 minute one way "walk" to the Best Buy. That was my motivation today. Really interesting things at BB, but I just browsed.

Cool stuff, those LCD tvs. A 32" Toshiba would do very nice, thank you. Maybe in a couple of years.

Only 17 more miles to reach mouse mouse level!

Friday update

A little bit of a soggy walk today but not overly too bad. Got in the half hour time. I'm going to venture into territory not usually touched...weekend walking. I made the commitment to the Trek and need to kick it up a notch!

Day 2 - Trekkin again

I almost didn't make my 30 minute walk today during my lunch break. A coworker was talking about how he's been converting VHS to DVD. I was stopped by two managers who caught me, with head set on heading out the door.

I got my time in and can add two more "miles" towards the mouse mouse level!

Please bear with me as I work through this blogging thing. It's new territory for me and I haven't done basic HTML in a while. I hope to add photos in the near future once I figure that out.

Twenty-three miles to mouse mouse level!

On My Way - To "Mouse Mouse" level

If you've read the Trek link in the first post, you'll notice that my first Florida Trek level is at 250 "miles" or as calculated 62.5 hours of exercise to attain the first Alligator Point. I've created some "sub-goals" (with some assistance from my sister) so I can feel I'm accomplishing some level. They're in 25 mile increments and are as follows:

25 - mouse mouse
50 - peeps
75 - baby ducks
100 - Murray (sister's cat)
125 - Ripkin (sister's other cat)
150 - Lucifer the Hippo (at Homosassa Springs State Park)
175 - baby panda
200 - panther cub
225 - baby manatee

I know those are a bit silly but they'll work for me! Two "miles" today, so 23 more to reach "Mouse Mouse" level.

Beginning the Florida Trek

Two significant items are starting today in Florida. The first is the more known of the two, the hurricane season. The other is the beginning, as it was termed in an email message "
Tomorrow is the first day of the rest of your life !"

Today, I begin my journey on the Florida Trek. Here is a description of my trip. I thought I could help my own cause and motivation by blogging my progress. To keep my inspiration up, I've created sub goals below the first official Trek level.

I hope you enjoy reading about my nearly year long "ride"!
